Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? – 1 Corinthians 6:9 KJV
When we came to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour by faith, the righteous of God was transferred unto us. From that moment, when God looked down, he didn’t see our works or righteousness which has been described as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6).
Even though the righteousness of God was transferred to us, it does not mean we then received liberty to continue to do whatever we wanted since it was the righteousness of God that we received by faith. That’s why Paul said in Romans 6:1, ‘What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?’ Verse 2 says, ‘God forbid. How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?’
As children of God, we should never forget the fact that God saved us so that we may enter into his kingdom. Jesus had to pay the ultimate sacrifice with his life so that we may escape living in hell with the devil but to reign with him.
If we forget these things and continue to live our old life styles, it will be impossible to enter into the kingdom of God. When we look at the church today, we will see that there are too many people who are in the church but are not different from those in the world. From time to time when you look around, you can’t even tell the difference between a supposed child of God and those who have not come to know the Lord.
Let us remember those described by the scripture who will not make it into the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 says, ‘Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.’
Before we got born again, those words in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 described some of us. Sadly, some of us have returned to our old ways. We now even do some of the things we didn’t do before we got born again. Verse 11 of the same scripture says, ‘And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.’
Let us not forget that we have been washed and santified. If there be any unrighteousness in us, let us depart from them and take on the full righteousness of God. God has done everything needed in order for us to easily make it into his kingdom. The price has been paid. We received his righteous and all we need to do is to continue walking in his righteousness.
We must not be deceived, the grace of God only has us covered if we continue to walk in the provisions of Grace. When we walk outside of the provisions of grace – returning to sin or continuing in sin – we cut ourselves off from God and will not be able to inherit the kingdom of God. I pray that as you make the effort to walk in the provisions of Grace, you will inherit the kingdom of God in Jesus name.
