The God who does exceedingly

The God who does exceedingly’Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,’ – Eph 3:20 NKJV

There is no doubting the fact that our God is the God of greater things. He was described as the one who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. That means God is always able to surpass our imagination and do more than our requests.

In the book of I Samuel 10, we saw that God instructed Samuel to anoint Saul as king. Saul wasn’t looking for a throne or a lost crown! He was looking for his father’s donkey and would have been so happy to return home with the lost donkey. That was all he wanted. The God of greater things showed up for him during his search and while he was looking for a donkey, God was ordaining him as king of Israel.

Sometimes we can be crying for something that seems so dear to us but the God of greater things who knows all things has better things in stock for us. At other times when we pray according to his will, we just want to be okay but He wants more than ‘okay’ for us. He goes out of his way to get things done for us.

I Kings 3: 5-15, Solomon was only asking for an understanding heart in order to be able to judge the people of God. After that request, God did much more than Solomon was asking for. He promised him honour and wealth. He also promised him length of days provided he (solomon) walked before God and kept God’s statutes. God even told him that there would be no king like him and none would be as wise as him after him. Now that’s much more than Solomon was looking for.

When you read the entire short book of Esther, you will see that Esther, who was an orphan, being taken care of by her uncle, would have been satisfied with just surviving. She would have been happy to be alive and find something to eat always. That would have been okay but God certainly had much more planned out for her. Someone who would have been very comfortable with just surviving eventually became the queen. That is the God of greater things at work.

The reason those Bible characters listed above have been mentioned is to show you God is always able to do much more than you can ask or imagine. It may look like what you are requesting has not been done, but he will do it and even surpass your imagination. Sometimes he may make you wait but it does not mean he will not do what you want, so long as you are requesting within his will. It is possible that the issue you are talking to him about seems prolonged, he will eventually answer you and ensure you are also rewarded for all the waiting days.

Whatever you have been crying about, the God of greater things will step in, do much more than you can imagine, wipe your tears away and settle you in a very great way in Jesus name (Amen).
