Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. “For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” – Genesis 3: 4-5 (NKJV)
God is a specialist in doing new things and for his own people. He has the new things planned out and everything that can become an obstacle has been taken care of. He will not promise and give excuses on why the promise cannot be fulfilled. Certainly, a new thing will happen for you and me as declared by the lord.
Our text above shows that God had created human beings and wanted them to live without having to worry about death. He gave them an instruction and if they had kept the instruction, we certainly will not be able to put an age limit on man. The devil saw that, and as a fallen angel could not take it so he wanted to disrupt the promise of something new from God to man.
What did he do? He decided to twist the promise so that when the people get it wrong, there will be a right reason for God not to fulfill his promise. The devil knows that God is a just and a righteous God. His eyes will not behold iniquities and he does not take pleasure in wrong doing at all.
All the devil then wants to do is to make us do something that God will not be happy about so that He can take His face away from us. If God does not see us or does not look at us, how will He ever fulfill his promise of doing a new thing in our lives?
The good thing is that God outsmarted the devil. He always had another plan for us His sons so that when the devil wants to exploit our weakness, we will still not fall victim or become doomed without remedy.
See what happened as God judged in verse 15 of Genesis 3. ‘And there will be war between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed: by him will your head be crushed and by you his foot will be wounded. (BBE). The devil wanted man to lose his relationship with God completely. That was what he set out to do but God has an all-encompassing redemption package. God still gave us victory over the devil and said, according to Bible in Basic English, that we will crush the devil’s head.
You need to be aware of the things that can happen as soon as God has promised to do something new. When God first promised Abraham and Sarah a child, it sounded impossible. Later it looked like it was taking too long then Sarah decided to help God make it happen. She brought Haggai into the picture and promise of God to Abraham and they got their own result which, till date, is still causing problems in the world.
Sometimes there will be temptations. At times the devil will be playing with your mind. He will make you think that you can’t qualify for something new from God and you need to find a way to sort yourself. He will present opportunities that look like what God promised you. he will also tell you there is nothing wrong in doing it even though you know clearly what God instructed you.
Always remember that was what he did to Adam and Eve and that was why man fell. The devil is doing it over and over again but if we are sensitive to the spirit, whatever new thing that God has promised cannot be stopped by the devil.
