The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, endure forever–forsake not the works of Your own hands. Psalm 138:8 AMP. [Ps. 57:2; Phil. 1:6.]
Starting and finishing something is one of the major attributes of God. There is nothing he has started that he cannot finish because he will never start what he can’t finish. Men may start something and not be able to finish it. That is not the same with our God.
It would have been a disaster if our great and mighty God cannot finish what he has already started. Then all of us will become abandoned projects. We will launch into things and halfway into the project we will not be able to finish. God would have started great things in us but we will just not finish it if he does not have the power to finish it.
Here in Psalms 138:8 the palmist reassures himself that the Lord will perfect all that concerns him. When a real worshipper says something about God you need to believe it. That’s because David worships and moves God so he knows what God can do.
David did not stop at telling us that God will perfect things concerning him. He also gave us reasons why God will perfect those things. David said God’s mercy and loving kindness endures forever. So we have an assurance that things concerning us will be perfected because of God’s mercy and his loving kindness. This simply means he has too much mercy to abandon us. His loving kindness has gone beyond just watching us suffer or hang in there in the midst of troubles.
After saying that God has mercy and loving kindness, as if to remind God, David then says ‘forsake not the works of your own hands.’ You need to understand that statements like this can come in moments of desperation and trouble. So it is like a plea asking God not to forsake his own works ~ you and I.
Regardless of what you are going through, I have an assurance that God will not forsake you but perfect things concerning you. God himself said in Isaiah 49:15, ‘Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you. And in verse 16 from the amplified Bible he said, ‘Behold, I have indelibly imprinted (tattooed a picture of) you on the palm of each of My hands; [O Zion] your walls are continually before Me.
That also means your matter is perpetually before God and he will not forsake you but perfect that which concerns you in this very month of perfection in Jesus name. Amen.
