Encouragement from the mystery of a growing seed │© Fola Daniel Adelesi

I remember a couple of stories told about Kenneth Copeland but one of them that strikes me is the one about young Kenneth planting the seeds of a water melon and the following morning he rushed down to the spot where he planted the water melon to see if it had grown! Miraculously, he found a big water melon on the same spot where he had planted a few seeds the previous day. However, what he did not know was that his father was watching him when he planted the seeds and in order to encourage him, the father went behind him to plant a big water melon on the same spot where he had planted the seeds! He was just so happy to see the big water melon but he did not know the miracle that happened overnight!

Just like young Kenneth, there are so many of us who expect to sow our seeds and have the results the next day! We believe that anything we put resources into and we do not get much out of it immediately has failed and we become discouraged! We expect instant miracles and instant results with everything. We do not want to wait too long to have the results of the things we are working on. We just want everything now!

Nothing works like that in the real world! If you want things now then you would have planted years ago! For some people it looks like nothing is working and they really feel like giving up on all the things they are doing. I understand that part of being discouraged when things don’t seem to be working because I have been there as well but there is something else you need to pay attention to! Take a very close look at the seeds that become the fruits that we eat. Before the seeds can become fruits, the following things will happen:
The seed will be buried in the ground – every buried seed becomes invisible. Once you remember that every buried seed will at some point be invisible then you should not be discouraged when you can no longer see your seed! You have buried your seeds. That you cannot see the seed yet does not mean the seed is wasted. The seed is in a process!

That seed will experience the heat in the ground and begin to decay – there is no seed that will be able to reproduce fruits without first experiencing decay. The heat from the ground will kill the seed and help it to blend with the earth! If the seed does not blend with the earth then it will not be able to draw strength from the earth and therefore cannot produce fruits.

Rain will fall on the seed – sometimes as human beings we feel bad when rain falls on us but it is a normal thing for rain to fall on our seeds. There is also a kind of ‘rain’ that whatever seed you are sowing needs and until that rain comes on your seed you cannot have fruits

Sun will shine on the same seed – There are some nutrients that your seed would have drawn from the ground and from the rain but they may not be useful to the seed until the sun comes on the seed. There is also that period in your own life when sun will shine on your seed! The sun may cause some itching but it is for the good of the seed.

All seeds must also contend with weeds – there will be other unwanted plants around the area where you seeds are planted. If the seed cannot contend with those planted then the seed will die. A number of times we as human being have to help our seeds but taking care of unwanted plants. When we do that, the seeds have enough room to grow. There are some unwanted plants that may kill your seeds so you have to deal with those plants before they kill your seed!

Finally the seed begins to produce – at this level you may have forgotten all that you went through to keep the seed alive. You may even have forgotten there was a time when the seed was invisible because it has now become visible! This is usually a moment of joy but there has been a process before the results.

When you take a look at all the processes that seeds will go through before they become fruits, just remember that all your efforts are seeds that have been buried in the earth and they must go through the processes of the seeds. Don’t be discouraged because you have not seen results yet! Just keep going because your harvest has a time!

I remember Reverend Sam Adeyemi saying, ‘will you say that your pregnancy has failed if after 3 months your baby refuses to come?’ You will not say that! A pregnancy has to be carried for 9 months if everything is alright and that’s when the baby will come! Different seeds have different gestation period so you should not give up on your own seed because the seeds of other people have produced fruits. You should also remember that you don’t know when those other people started sowing their seeds so it will be unrealistic to expect your harvest when their own harvest comes!

Don’t give on your seeds – efforts or invested resources – because they will germinate with time. Keep sowing your seeds, learn to wait and you will harvest in due season!
