I AM NOT EVERYBODY -Fola Daniel Adelesi

December 22, 2007

One major thing we all have to fight is the problem of virtually everybody. The reason I call it the problem of everybody is because nearly all the people living on the face of the earth would have at one time or the other be pressed to do something not because they really feel like doing that thing. At one time or the other we have been pressed to buy something not because we need that product but because someone else is buying it or worse still because everybody is buying it. You get into a bus and everybody is buying candy or sausage so you also buy it because you don’t want to be left out of the buying!

I think one of the most disheartening things is to also choose a direction because everybody is going in that direction. You go to your right when everybody is going to the right and you go to your left when everybody is going to the left. When you get on the move you just keep moving because everybody is moving not because you have a reason to keep moving. When everybody stops you also stop not because it is time to stop but because everybody has stopped. When everybody is looking you also stop to look and when someone stops to ask you what you are looking at you say you don’t really know but if you would be sincere you would realize that you have been looking at everybody!

Can you just spare a minute to take an inventory of your daily activities? Would you also do me the honour of writing the reason for those daily activities of yours? How many of them are being done because you have a personal conviction for those things? Can you see! So here we go! You are doing what everybody does because everybody is doing it and you also do it where everybody does it when everybody is doing it!

How can you be different from everybody when you are doing what everybody is doing? How can you move ahead of everybody when you are moving with everybody? How can you be healthier when you eat what everybody eats? Unfortunately it is very difficult for so many people to get away from this syndrome of everybody because they are in love with everybody!

The earlier you realize that you are not everybody the better. I am not everybody! I have a name. I have an identity. I am separate from the crowd. The people who respect everybody instead of respecting their unique and separate identity are people who have a problem with the value of their identity in the absence of everybody. How can you think that you are a nobody when everybody is not there? Some people do a job because everybody is doing it so they are failing not because they are supposed to fail. They are failing not because they do not know anything. They are failing not because they are not in the right place. They are failing because they did what everybody did so they cannot be left out of the result that everybody is having. Everybody is failing so they must be failing! Are you everybody? Oh you said, ‘no’ so why are you doing what everybody does?

What it takes to succeed 2 – Fola Daniel Adelesi

What it takes to succeed 2 – Fola Daniel Adelesi

The challenge some people have with understanding when failure begins is exactly why they fail. If you do not want to fail in life you should have an idea of where failure begins and how it begins. My task for now is to help you see something that so many people overlook despite their intentions to succeed. You must begin to reset your memory by now so that you can accept the fact that the intention to succeed is not as important as the action toward success. You may have the intention to succeed and may not be doing what it takes to succeed. It is for this reason that some people will ask you to say what you mean and mean what you say. Here are some of the things to help you say what you mean and to mean what you say:

Definite Vision
Martin Luther King, Jr. did not just say that he had a dream. That dream was definite. It was a dream that one day his four little children will no longer be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character. It was a dream that segregation will no longer be heard of in their community. We must all understand that people begin to fail when they only wish for something. A proof that many of us are simply wishing is in the fact that we say we will get to a position one day but we do not have plans to get there. There is no definite strategy to get there and there is nothing we are doing in line with what we want to become. How can you say you have dream to become a great man and you do not know what exactly you will do to be great. Wishing to be great is mere fantasy when you have no definite vision of what will make you great and what you will do to achieve that greatness. If you want to succeed you must be definite about the kind of success. Be definite about what you want to succeed in. be definite about when you want to succeed. Others may not see how you will succeed but the truth is that you do not need their permission to succeed. The person whose permission you need to succeed is you. When you have given yourself that permission, make a definite plan.

Definite Direction
We all celebrate Nelson Mandela but only a few people realize that Mandela became a celebrity because of his conviction and the direction he had in front of him. He could have compromised but he did not compromise. When you have the dream to become a voice to be heard in your generation you must have a plan of the way to go about it. You are not an ordinary man so you should not do things like ordinary men. Great men have direction so you must have a direction. Direction means a sight in view. The place you are going. Don’t wake up doing everything everybody does because everything does not lead to that place that you are going. Only some specific things can be done to get there. Never forget that you will not get anywhere when you set out in life without a direction. Many of us are comfortable in places that should be the least position we can occupy simply because we do not have a direction. When we have a direction in life we will know what to do per time. It will help us to understand that we should not imitate others simply because they are going to a different place. What would you call a man who decides to dress like his friend who was going to the gym when he was actually going to a party? Definite direction is necessary for the wishes of our hearts.

Definite achievements
Some of us told our mothers and fathers when we were young that we would buy them airplanes. When we grew further we also said we were going to build houses for them. We promised them a lot of things and we said them over and over again but now we have no definite achievements in mind. Your heart desires have no power of their own to become a reality. You must make them happen but you need to have something definite in mind before it becomes easier to achieve. An example is that of a young man who said that he would become the Senior Prefect of his school. He became the senior prefect of that school 5 years later because of definite achievement in mind. Make a list of definite achievements you want because these things will drive you to achieve.

What it takes to succeed 1 – Fola Daniel Adelesi

December 22, 2007

Very many people want to succeed and the truth is that these people do not know what it takes to succeed. They are struggling on daily basis to get things done but unfortunately their struggles are even based on the wrong principles. We all know that you need to use a key when you have to enter a house but you will struggle endlessly to enter that house if you are using the wrong keys to the doors. People may pity you when they see your efforts but a few people realize that principles are more important than efforts. For this reason I would want you to look at these few but the kind of ‘not-negligible’ principles that help you to succeed.

Passion

I once heard Sam Adeyemi say, ‘I have discovered an area of life where I function like a computer.’ He simply means that he has found something that he is so passionate about. In some of the places where I have had the opportunity to observe the workers, I realized that these people have a poor work attitude because they are doing something they are not passionate about. If you are a student you must be taking courses that you are passionate about you because you should not just get a formal education. You need to succeed in flying colours. A lot of business people are also struggling with their business because they are doing what somebody told them to do instead of doing what they love doing. If you love to write make sure you are not doing something else. If you love to talk just go about talking. If you love to draw please draw as often as you can draw. Simply do what you love to do provided it is the right thing to do without hurting anyone.

Price

It pains me to see walking books all around our country. They never get written because we make excuses instead of paying prices. It pains me to see walking speeches all around our country. The kind of speeches that will change our nation. They are never delivered because the people who carry them make excuses instead of paying prices. We have the best of pictures roaming the streets. They have not been drawn because we are making excuses instead of paying prices. We must understand that if things must work out we would have to pay prices. Nature operates by the law of giving and receiving. When you love something so much that you like to do it, you would have to give nature what it demands before you can get what you desire from nature. Environment will place demands on you to give you what you desire. Please go ahead and make necessary sacrifices to get the things that you need in life. The people who ever made it in life are people who have also given something to life.

Patience

I have heard stories upon stories about men who have the potential to succeed and eventually fail often time at the juncture where decisions are about to be changed because of them. I see people who give up when the rules are about to be bent because of them.  I see people who decide to give up when nature’s principles are about to produce and exception simply because somebody has to succeed. Take a look at the bottle. When something that is slightly bigger than the mouth of the bottle it to be removed from it, it will be easy for that object to move from the bottom of the bottle to the neck of the bottle. It becomes tougher at the neck of the bottle because that object is almost out. It gets tougher when you are about to break even. It gets tougher when it is about to be easier but too many people are impatient with the circumstances that are in place to favour them.

Professionalism

When I was a secondary school student it was compulsory for us to know some quotable quotes because you could be called upon at anytime to recite a quote. If you cannot you would be in trouble. One of such quotes is, ‘whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well and must be done with undivided attention.’ Too many people are doing what must be done but they are doing these things anyhow. They have forgotten that what they do so well will become advertisements for them. They do not realize that doing it right now will give them a chance to do another one. Some people do what they do because all they want is the money and there is no consideration for the people who paying that money. Things should not be done like that. Do the things you need to do differently.
